|
|
Hi Everyone,
My friend asked me for advice on where to start teaching. However, unlike many other people in this profession, he has some money saved and may not need to work for the money.
I get mailers, etc. from places such as the Maldives, Bailares, Eastern Europe, etc. While I do not know which of these specific ones are legit, I'm wondering if I could recommend him to any place that is not common (i.e. Korea, Saudi, etc.) where he can have an interesting cultural experience.
Of course, China would be interesting. I'm guessing Thailand and Malaysia may be interesting places to visit, if you're willing to get paid less.
Anything websites, etc. that may say so? |

You asked about websites he could look at, well why not start with this one. This topic has been discussed throughout the newbie forum, so your friend should check there. Ditto for looking at the country-specific forums if he has a general idea of his target countries. Anyway, it would be useful to know his:
- age
- nationality
- education (level and major)
- TEFL cert?
- experience
- interest in short or long term contract
- interest in teaching kids or adults
- countries he absolutely wants to avoid (excluding those currently in conflict or dealing with a disease outbreak)
- must haves in terms of climate, large city vs. rural, near mountains/ocean/plains, open vs. conservative society...
(By the way, you never acknowledged the responses on your thread about starting a school in Tunisia.) |

Three words you don't often see in close proximity to Saudi: interesting cultural experience. |

Saudi is not the place for a newbie, you could scar him for life. |

Yet it is the inevitable EFL rite of passage that we all must take before reaching the promised land.

Ha! Where's the promised land? Even in India when I was responsible for recruiting I wouldn't take newbies, in Saudi it would be close to a crime against humanity to do so.... |

Just west of Ruislip on a slip road off the M25. Keep it between me and you though. |
