Hello Teflers,

Is it possible for a Filipino to teach English in Thailand? I'm from the US and she is from Philippines. We'll marry next year and then (if I can convince her), we'll change countries from China to Thailand or other SE country. She will be using her passport (due to visa & reentering China), but changing her surname to mine.
I've read about other non NETs teaching there, but I would like some fresh information since some of the old forums are quite dated.

Cheers from China,

Aaron

If she has a degree and a valid TOEIC certificate with a score over 600 then legal work (defined as having a proper visa and work permit) is possible. She will be limited to 4 years or 2 employers (which ever comes first).

IF she has a degree in education then she only needs a TOEIC certificate (IELTS and TOEFL are also acceptable) and the "culture course" to gain her Thai Teaching license (5-year renewable). Essentially makes the rest of the visa/work permit process a rubber stamp.

She should be able to find jobs with a combined salary (15k/month) and benefits (housing, contract completion, etc) worth another 3-5k/month as a starting package.

After she gets settled, proven in a Thai classroom (she needs a year of experience to gain her license) and obtains her license then remuneration packages of 20-25k are certainly achievable.

If she has a BEED, a TOEIC over 750 and wants to work in elementary school then drop me a note.

* salaries are given in THB/month.
** cost of living is comparable to the NCR.

.
