I need to scan a paper document onto my USB key. I went to the internet cafe near my home and of course they didn't have a scanner (I guess the 10,000 yen or 15,000 yen investment in a printer scanner is too expensive for them ) Rolling Eyes

Does anyone have and idea where I can get this done? Try other internet cafes?

Some copiers can do that.
Try Kinko's.

Do you know if any of the convenience store copiers can do that?

Lawsons and Family Marts machines can print PDF documents from a USB key, but I don't remember a scan function on those machines. It's a one way deal.

Wow! I've just discovered that the copiers at Lawsons and Family Mart can scan documents onto USB keys.

That option is good for the gaijin who wants to live in Japan forever (or say 3 years, the life span of a scanner). However, I'm not one of them, so I don't want to lose money reselling it or the hassle of doing that.

Ever so sad to learn you may no longer be on these boards in a few short years Sad

With all that money yer gonna save on the diet, you should be able to afford it.

Yer reasoning is silly & spurious...a Canon portable scanner is light-weight, cheap, highly-useful and USB powered...in other words INTERNATIONAL!

Being a "gaijin" has got nothing to do with it, being unreasonable, unimaginative & a penny-pincher does...Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I was there for a year and bought a 5000 yen scanner/copier/printer. Disposal was as easy as a craigslist post. Totally worth it.

Whatever dude. Do you always try to start arguments with people over trivial issues?

No more, Dude, than kah5217, who said essentially the same thing that I did...

Obviously, it wasn't "trivial" to you as you started a whole new thread over it.

I guess, when you have nothing credible to offer...you attack.

How pedestrian... Rolling Eyes
