|
|
TATI is advertising positions for 520 Rial per month salary (400 basic, 100 HRA allowance, 20 transport allowance).
Is this another indicating of the general decline in teaching salaries, a sign that Indian, Filipinas and other Arabs (Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt) are preferred due to their acquiescence or is TATI just running out of money? |

Ok-it's an ad for TATI-but it doesn't specify what institute this position is for... |

Yikes ! but, it is for one of the 2nd or 3rd tier institutes here I am very sure. They will receive dozens, even hundreds of applications for it. don't forget though, the salary represents an attractive opportunity for thousands (millions?) of Indian, Sri Lankan, Sudanese, Egyptian teachers who will come to make a better life for themselves and their families.
So, we are comparing apples to oranges. The education and training economy here has many levels and serves different markets.

There seems to be a trend towards hiring fewer Western teachers at some of the colleges. For example, at Nizwa College of Technology, Western teachers make up less than 10% of the ELC staff.
However, the salary offered by TATI for these positions, is much lower than what most teachers make. The teachers employed directly by the Ministry have free housing and earn about 1000 Rials per month. I would be surprised if these positions are for the colleges of technology. |

I wouldn't be at all surprised. TATI are a commercial operation and if they can make money by hiring cheap labour and pocketing the difference then they will. |
