Hi looking for new job sick off getting messed around. By school I'm at now they keep lying about this and that I can't be assd anymore they promised me 30 an hour which turned into 14 which I still thought was great but then they took my passport and asked for a service fee which I haven't got?anyone got any job advice I need big money quick to pay my landlord nine months rent which is a joke I pay 450 a month as well I came here to save money not lose it

It's up to you how much you charge and depends how stupid or willing the person is. A motorbike is essential though.

Why does your school want a service fee?? Have you got your passport back?

Why do I keep thinking Okie from Muskogee?

On most sites, you never know, but here, we are a relatively small group, and one can get a pretty good feel for these zombies that get killed off but then go down to their local internet shop with a different IP address and shazaam, they are back for more. I just cannot figure out what benefit they get from this. Maybe, like the zombie, it is enough to feel that despite not being quite human, somehow, they are still alive. I think, I write (sort of), therefore, I exist (again, sort of).

Not sure who's yanking our collective chain here, but I'm guessing somebody thinks this place needs to liven up a little bit. A good trolling is hard to do, though, unless you really mean it. This one is clearly a ruse and easy to dismiss as such.

I've always thought this blatant bs we so often see is a manifestation of the dislike expats have for each other, which we so often see over here. I get into one of the areas where one sees a lot of foreigners through the day, and it always amazes me how they pretend not to see you when they pass by. I do understand, the more of us that come over, the more it all degrades for us. Personally, that does not translate into dislike for my fellow westerner, but I can see why it would for some of these deep thinkers.

Someone had a great link about this a couple of months ago, the one with the story where the Cambodian shopkeeper saw two expats in her shop at the same time and assumed they were married. The expats had to pretend for a moment to be civil to each other, when they were both doing their best to ignore each other. Very cute story, and a great explanation of the phenomenon.

I'll admit I'm not very friendly with other expats I run into, and I can offer two reasons for that: One, I'm generally shy and don't talk to strangers unless I have to. i.e., I'm just not comfortable striking up a conversation randomly. Second, I've found most of the conversations I have with expats goes along the same lines: "where you from?", "how long you been here?", "how are you liking it?" Occasionally you get some interesting banter, but mostly it's the same conversation I've already had seemingly dozens of times.

The exception is if I'm in a cafe, or bar, just relaxing and enjoying a beverage. If there's another expat nearby, I'll strike up a conversation, but that's more of a social situation when I'm just killing time, so any conversation is better than none.

Finally, in general, I find the local Vietnamese so friendly that I don't worry too much about conversing with my own kind. That's one of the things I love about Vietnam -- even those 20 or more years younger than you want to talk to you. That doesn't happen back home -- if you're over 40, kids in their 20s are just too cool to talk to you.
