Mainstream and other Media in Europe are full of stories about the movement of people from Iraq/Syria to the Northern States of the EU.
Seems to have gone un-noticed here. |

The problem of refugees is a worldwide one, wherever there is a war, people will move and escape to safer and stable countries.
History repeats itself periodically with regard to the refugees from war around the globe.
The Scots escaped to the New World in the early 1600's during the Cromwellian Civil War in Britain. The Jacobite rebellions of 1715 and 1745 also saw numbers of Scotsmen transported to America, as did the Highland Clearances which came somewhat later. Scottish emigrants who had gone to northern Ireland as colonists of the Ulster plantations in the first half of the 16th century also emigrated to America in the early 1700's. These people, who were referred to as the "Scotch-Irish" were by far the most numerous group of Scottish Colonists to come to America.

The question is why the refugees from Syria were treated badly by the Hungarians (have you seen the Hungarian journalist who was caught on camera tripping Syrian refugees?).

I am glad that the Scottish government will welcome around 1000 Syrian refugees.
I hope that Scotty will provide social support, accommodation, and English language skills to the Syrian refugees in Scotland. |

Which Scots are you referring to? Those taken prisoner at the battles of Dunbar (1650) and Worcester (1651) were transported to the New World colonies by the aforementioned Cromwell.
The Highland Clearances involved expulsion from the land, but not transportation, which remained a punishment for convicted criminals. Roughly half of the Highlanders cleared moved to other parts of Scotland, principally to coastal settlements and the lowlands.
Scottish emigration to the Ulster plantations did not occur until the 17th century when James VI of Scotland became James I of England in1603. |

"The Cromwellian Civil War" I have never seen that label for what we now call "The Wars of the Three Kingdoms".
In the bad old days it was called "The English Civil War" but of course it involved, England, Scotland and Ireland. (As well as Wales, Man and the Channel islands)
The Campbells were heavily involved and paid the usual price for being politicians on the wrong side in the bad old days. I recommend a visit as a pilgrim to Kilmun Parish Church on the Holy Loch.
