Greetings,
I've been lurking on these boards for ages. This, my first post, does not constitute a question per se - I'd like to introduce myself and make a small contribution to the ever-present discussion surrounding salaries of EFL teachers with basic credentials and minimal experience in Saudi Arabia. I'm a non-white British teacher with two years' experience, one of which was spent teaching adults in the region. I'm a female in my early thirties with a CELTA, BA and MA (both unrelated), and I'm currently pursuing an MA Applied Linguistics & TESOL via distance learning. TEFL is my career of choice, and I hope to have a long and varied one doing what I've grown to love.
I've signed a contract with Education Experts, which stipulates a basic salary of SAR 13000. This seems quite high, considering my status as a relatively new teacher with basic credentials (I was expecting around SAR 12000 based on discussions on this and other boards). I've since spoken to other teachers with similar, more and less qualifications and experience, who have been offered similar, more and less remuneration, with the same and different recruiters.
P.S. I'm aware of EdEx's less than glowing reputation, but I've chosen to proceed with the company, having had a pleasant and rewarding experience at my previous TEFL job, where 8 out of 10 teachers were disgruntled and aggrieved with the employer. In my view, if it all goes pear-shaped, then in the very least, it'll be a character building exercise.

You sound as if you will do fine since your expectations are realistic. I always felt that the bad experiences were fodder for that retirement novel... that I am still too lazy to write.

To succeed in KSA, keep your expectations realistic (i.e., low), maintain a healthy sense of humor, be flexible, and have loads of patience. |

VS, I can't wait for the novel! Please start penning it and release it chapter by chapter - I love a good read 
Nomad Soul, I will be sure to put all those things into practice. Thank you! An anonymous saying that I live by, which has helped me greatly when faced with an imminent character-building exercise, is "Do not condone wrong by remaining silent; rather, remain silent than say words of destruction".
