See some great speakers, give a presentation or workshop, and see a beautiful area of the world.

I've read of a madman from Macedonia, but I've yet to meet a Mike.
Holding a conference just over a hundred miles from the Syrian border might be considered mad...
Autonomous learning models were created for gifted and talented students, and blended programs are about as "hot" a topic to be found in education. I hope Muscat Gary and Nomad Soul chime in, because I tend to dismiss framings steeped in theory and capitalized jargon-- because, outside of promotions, I enjoy jargon.

It is an intriguing appeal-- wisdom.
There's gold in them thar inter-tubes, and by golly, good teachin's so good students teach themselves.

p.s. I'm not a Luddite-- I swear. And if my skepticism offends anyone, I offer this apology in advance.

Everything 'to follow'.... Not a lot to say really because there's not a lot of information. Looks like they're throwing bait into the water and waiting to see what, or who, bites.

Well, it seems the conference is trying to answer Eliot's question:

Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?

But, knowledge without wisdom is dangerous and may lead students to fail?

Discuss?

Knowledge can be imparted by others; wisdom must be learned from experience.

All the facts in the world do not equal an ounce of wisdom.

John

I can't recall where I read: An ounce of wit is worth a pound of wisdom.
But I can cite Frank Zappa's deconstruction from Joe's Garage:
Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is the best…

Dearburavirgil

Well, I did find this:

"An ounce of wisdom is worth a pound of wit."

http://www.bartleby.com/89/1922.html

and this:

"An ounce of luck is better than a pound of wisdom"

http://www.englishproverbs.org/wise-words/ounceluckbetterpoundwisdom.html

but regarding that:

"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."

often attributed to Seneca, but the source is iffy.

Regards,
John

So, John, is it possible to teach wisdom?
If yes, how?

Please do not answer my questions if you are not a wise man/woman! Laughing

Wisdom taught can be absorbed only as knowledge. Knowledge is information, but wisdom is the understanding and application of that knowledge.

Wisdom can come only from experience, not from the experience itself, but from what we learn from the experience.

John

Indeed, learning from experience is learning through reflection on doing things, and is known as "Experiential learning" which is coined by David Kolb who contributed greatly to expanding the philosophy of experiential education.

John, I will nominate you for Her Majesty the Queen's honorary award for wisdom for your long service in wisdom and education! Laughing

Dear Mushkilla,

Can't accept - I'm wise enough to know how very unwise I truly am, but also wise enough to know how undeserved most "honorary awards" are.

Regards,
John

Dear Johnslat

The Party does not hold with your line of reasoning. Your Order of Lenin is still fully deserved. The Party has so decreed.

With Communist greetings
