|
|
I had a simple biopsy done a couple weeks ago, at which time the doc at the local private clinic scheduled a second appointment to go over the results. That was supposed to happen yesterday. My appt was for 10:30 a.m. I arrived 15 mins early, checked in, etc.
Ninety mins later, as I'm still twiddling my thumbs in the waiting room, the receptionist announces that it's lunchtime and the doc will continue seeing patients from 1:00.
I had to get to work by then, so I informed the receptionist that I had to leave. I then requested that the doc call me with the results or mail them to my home, but she insisted that this wasn't possible. She said everything had to be done face to face.
Is this legal? Can a doctor withhold test results (that I've already paid for, BTW) like this? Do any of you have any experience with this kind of situation? Do I just have to suck it up and waste another morning/afternoon/full day? |

Really, anything you might do, even if it were within your rights, would almost certainly be more of a hassle and more time consuming than just making another appointment. |

I have noticed that compared to the UK, Doctors (and the same goes for dentists too) seem to drag everything out for as long as possible. Never have I got everything I wanted done in one appointment, I always had to come back one or twice, even if it was something really minor.
I went to have my teeth cleaned once, and even that took them two appointments. |

Yeah, it basically is they own way of scamming the national insurance. They can triple charge you for essentially one service. |

I've had, and seen, that experience too. It really bothers me that they mess around with your health and straight-up lie saying that they "can't do x" all at once. |

I messed up my shoulder a few years ago. I went to the doctor, he told me to wait 6 weeks. I went again. He told me to wait 6 weeks. Went again, got an MRI. Nothing was torn, so he told me to stop exercising/doing Martial Arts. I went to a different doctor, and did a few secessions of rehab, and was fine. Basically the other doctor wasted 4 or so months of my time, and a good 20,000yen.
My wife who did medical research, said a lot of doctors at clinics don't have to do research/push themselves, generally get lazy. So if you have a problem that they don't quickly figure out, they'll just not try. Which is kinda sad. My Father-in-law was told that he had a "50 year old shoulder" and that was that, it can't be helped. |

Get a second opinion.
Speak Japanese and refuse to pay for certain things or certain tests.
I managed to get a free eye test that way.
I did have to get the first doctor to write a letter to the second doctor, and that cost me 1000 yen or a little less.
Bottom line is you are a consumer so if you don't like your doctor, look for a new one. |
