I arrived in Jeddah a few days ago and am doing a search for accommodations. I have two days. I would like to take more time -- which I really don't have. So I'm looking to rent a spare bedroom for a month, maybe longer. PM me please.

Frankly, your best source of information are your teaching colleagues; they're familiar with your level of housing benefits as well as landords in your area that rent to single males. They may even know of someone seeking a roommate. The other option is to ask around for the phone number of a reliable real estate agent. Find out up front what his commission is.

Serviced apartment is a good idea. Ask around. Best source of info - your colleagues and co-workers.

Go to one of the many Hotel/Apt Suites. They are fully loaded with everything you need from bedding, to a TV, microwave and internet. You can get places for around 2,000sr a month that are near KAU. If you wanted to get close to the big fountain near Applebees, TGIF and Chill's, you can expect to pay around 3,000 - 4,000 a month, but they are much nicer. Stay there for a month and give yourself time to relax and take your time in finding the best place for you in Jeddah. I did this and it worked out very well. Here's a tip...

Get in a taxi and drive around areas you might want to live in and look for windows without AC's. It will be very easy to see the large hole. This means the place is empty. Get out and try to find the "super" for the building to see about renting the unit. If you are single, many places won't rent to you.
