Anybody living in Lublin?

Does anybody know of any people living in Lublin? I move there soon and having a few contacts there would be handy while I get to know the city and settle in.

The few years i've been on this board and don't recall anyone in Lublin. There's not much to get used to, small but lovely city, lots of stoodents, a market ripe for picking assuming you don't chase tail and booze yourself silly.

Usual rules apply, work with a school for a year, get to know the ground, go out by yourself. Simples.

I last visited in 1963 ! It struck me as a provincial town with some attractions.

The airport opened a few years back and it was trying to sell itself to the crowds that usually urinate over krakow and katowice.

Road links to Warsaw still abysmal though - probably better in 1963.

The large Majdanek concentration camp outside of town is definitely worth seeing.

The centre is pretty, but there are quite a few abandoned buildings, even in the old town.

I'll wager the only expats in Lublin are working in language schools. You might try following them from the schools to whatever pub they frequent after the lessons finish around 9pm.

Go and see for yourself. Long way from Japan. People should visit but it can be quite a shock, as can visits to many sites that commemorate the horrors of the 20th Century.

Me and the missus went to Oswiecim and Brzezinka in September. There was nothing touristy about that trip. I have an interest in holocaust history. That said,there were many Israelis there and it was very moving to hear them singing and praying next to one of the crematoria at Birkenau. People go there for all sorts of reasons but all leave with the same feeling. I learnt a lot that day and I will never go there again.
