I'd like to be the first this year to wish all my virtual colleagues at Dave's

Happy Solstice!! and also Merry Christmas:-)

Best wishes to all for 2015!

And here's a start on the linguistics of the wishes:

Below, you will find an alphabetical list of all the Christmas sayings in the EU’s official languages, as written in the Latin alphabet. Greek lettering is provided for the expression in that language, and the related Cyrillic appears for Bulgarian and Croatian.

Now, you just have to figure out how to pronounce them!

Bulgarian: Chestita Koleda (Честита Коледа) or Vesela Koleda (Весела Коледа)
Croatian: Sretan Božić (Сретан Божић)
Czech: Veselé Vánoce
Danish: Glædelig Jul
Dutch: Vrolijk Kerstfeest or Zalig Kersfeest
English: Merry Christmas
Estonian: Roomsaid Joulu Puhi
Finnish: Hyvää Joulua
French: Joyeux Noël
German: Fröhliche Weihnachten
Greek: Kalá Christoúgenna (Καλά Χριστούγεννα)
Hungarian: Kellemes Karácsonyi ünnepeket
Irish: Nollaig Shona Duit (singular) or Nollaig Shona Daoibh (plural)
Italian: Buon Natale
Latvian: Priecīgus Ziemassvētkus
Lithuanian: Linksmų Kalėdų
Maltese: Il-Milied It-Tajjeb
Polish: Wesołych Świąt Bożego Narodzenia
Portuguese: Feliz Natal
Romanian: Crăciun Fericit
Slovak: Veselé Vianoce
Slovene: Vesel Božič
Spanish: Feliz Navidad
Swedish: God Jul

Two of Luxembourg’s three official languages, French and German, are also EU official languages, but Luxembourgish is not. “Merry Christmas” in Luxembourgish is “Schéine Chrëschtdag.”
