Well it's my second topic post. Been scratching my head//b*lls in sheer confusion in which direction to turn. Yes - i'm lost..The more I read about digging gold in the sandbox - the more diverse it seems. It would have been simpler if I had a straight English degree - mine however is near complete opposite!

I've been offered to do the MAT in 3/4 well known universities. Fees are around £4k and books approx. £200. The million riyal question - will after spending 12 months, open the golden gates of the kings palace to Aladdins Cave? Three rubs of the genie's lamp and I want a villa, a pool - not forgetting - a haram with a cluster of toe-sucking booty-shaking belly-dancing girls.

Slap me if I wrong, but whats the quickest way to climb the ladder?
MAT or not - is the question.

Wack!

I just slapped you per your request.

Go back to scratching.

Study what you are most interested in and don't think about the money, which might be sucked dry by the time you get over here anyway. If that means a Fine Arts Degree in Underwater Basket Weaving with a minor in Irish Potato Farming, so be it. Wink

This is a no-brainer given that just about every Gulf TEFL job ad states a preference for a relevant graduate degree. And that goes for the better, direct-hire positions as well; employers expect an MA. However, if you're thinking about eventually changing careers from TEFL to a completely different field, then perhaps this degree wouldn't be a smart decision. Anyway, it depends on what your goals/interests are, also factoring in the needs of your wife and children.

My plans include a 20-30 hour week earning a wheelbarrow of gold - for the next 5-10 years. It's the TEFL highway for life with no u-turns. After say 3 years, post MAT I intend a Delta. After 10 years when my kids graduate, return to UK, buy a house and smoke cuban cigars. Simple.
