What sort of deals are available in Turkey for wrinklies like me ?
At 57 I am too old to sit around in Saudi waiting for Al-Qaeda to come and slit my throat.
But I am too young - and too poor - to retire !
Anything in Universities ? Istanbul ? Izmir ? Bursa ? |

Opportunities exist in Izmir, age shouldn't be a barrier (I'm 47 and there are plenty older than me). Economy University is now the chief employer but there are plenty of other places - those that discern should see that wisdom and experience (and staying power) count for a lot. |

Post your resume on Daves specifying ``Turkey`` and you should get several offers in a short time.
Better still - take a 2-3 week vacation in Turkey and visit prospective schools and Universities and talk with the key people, and if possible sit in on classes. Also offer to show your skills with a couple of sample lessons.
Getting a job should not be a problem as there are plenty of vacancies, many of them not advertised.
A word of warning - many Universities have cut their staff and increased their ``contact`` hours from previous 8-10 to 24 hours a week contact hours...this makes it much tougher than in the past, and the jobs are not as cushy as they once were. In the past one knew of some English Uni. teachers only teaching for 6-8 contact hours a week, around $2500 per month or higher and long vacations (paid around 4 months a year).
All good things come to an end....and even Turkey...land of endless chit chat and countless mini glasses of insipid tea...seems to be going the productivity route now.....(Europe at the end of the tunnel?). |
