Hi all,
ESL science teaching newbie here. Interviewing for a job teaching science in an international high school. I do have a science degree (from 8 years ago) so I'm familiar with Mitosis/Meiosis. As my first year of teaching experience was at a language center with no students over 8 years old, I'm really not sure how to make a lesson on Meiosis that is appropriate, yet interesting for 15-18 year olds. So if anyone here has suggestions for me I'd greatly appreciate it! |

You definitely need to ask about curriculum during your interview --- if there's a textbook the students use. But do you have a teaching qualification (e.g., licensure/certification) for science? A TEFL cert? |

Right, its a demo lesson so I don't have much to go by. Basically reviewing Mitosis and introducing Meiosis to 20 students. I do have a TEFL but no license for teaching science in the US |

Okay, you didn't mention this was for a demo. Anyway, the Internet is your best friend. Do a search on lesson mitosis meiosis. |

Here in the UK, students between 15-18 are usually studying for GCSE and A level exams.
Two popular sources are www.cgpbooks.co.uk which produce an excellent range of books about Biology.
and you could also check out https://www.khanacademy.org which do some very good presentations.
There are even sources for schools on the BBC website.
Good luck in the demo! |
