I plan to send around 45kg weight of stuff to France from Saudi Arabia. Mostly clothes and books and a few electronic items.

Did any of you simply use the Saudi Post Office to send stuff home, or did you use a freight company? Is it safe and reliable to use the Saudi Post Office? What about the Post Office in Bahrain, which is not far from where I was based in Saudi?

I have been in contact with a company in Dammam (Kanoo Travel and freight company, King Saud street, Dammam 966 13 835 6000)

The problem I have in France is that if a company (Kanoo Travel) sends it to France, to the city I live in (Marseille) there is no equivalent Kanoo freight company in Marseille to allow me to pick up the goods/shipment at the airport. So I would be stuck with no way of accessing the goods at Marseille airport, unless I could find a freight company which would take care of this requirement, which I have not been able to find up till now.

I could also use an address in London to have the shipment (around 45kg in weight) sent, and was thinking that this might be easier.

Any suggestions, because I have not been getting satisfactory answers from the airport freight area in France, up till now.

Thank you, for any suggestions or help you may provide.

I used Four Winds from Riyadh to Albuquerque, NM, and they did a fine job (but that was over 10 years ago.)

Maybe another poster would have a more recent review.

Admittedly, their grammar leaves something to be desired. On their website:

"Four Winds Moves The People Who Moves The World." Very Happy

It's the equivalent of USPS Priority Mail Express. However rather than overnight shipping like the U.S., in Saudi Arabia shipping from an address within Riyadh to another address within Riyadh takes 2 to 3 days. However it tracks your package online and you get a receipt that the package was sent. It costs a lot more than the USPS service too. I sort of get the understanding that the alternative cheaper mail service in Saudi Arabia could take weeks for domestic shipments, even from Riyadh to Riyadh. What was that quote by Winston Churchill about the Arabs? Laughing

The Four Winds. It somehow sounds very appropriate for something Saudi.

Ah the four winds.........tHHHHHHHHHHHHH.............you tell us your desires for your package and.......................tHHHHHHHHHHHHH ................in the manner and
style of the Gulf Ah.................

Picture the smooth playing guitar. Laughing

I have used Mohsen Cargo in Jeddah ( http://www.mohsencargo.com/ ) to ship stuff to the UK, and found it a very economical service, professional too - enough for Saudi anyway. Only thing is, you need to collect from the airport. It might be worth asking if they will do door to door.

I assume that this weight is on top of the baggage allowances you've allowed for as you fly home.

If not, bear in mind that many ME carriers allow for 30kg and that the extra 15kg you are talking about would probably not break the bank as excess charges go.

In my experience of living abroad for the last 17 years in four countries, it has never been worth shipping extra stuff home or on to the next destination. On the few occasions when I have, it only takes a year or so before I wonder why on earth I bothered.

When I signed my initial contract with the airline I got 600 KG (SIX HUNDRED) kilogrammes allowance for excess baggage.

I would love to send my accumulated junk off to Guatemala. While I doubt anyone else has had the exact same destination, have you ever sent boxes from the Eastern province to any "non-traditional" areas. Maybe 30 or 40 kilos total.
One former teacher here left his goodies to a cat-savers club in Khobar for their fundraising garage sales, but I don't like cats much, so unless I can specify my funds will go towards euthanasia programs ... Twisted Evil

There are dozens of Freight agencies in Saudi. They will collect from your house and give you a choice of house to airport (anywhere in the world) or house to house. Sending directly to your house/home costs very little extra and they take care of all formalities.
I'm guessing but 45kg. will probably not cost much more than 300/400 SAR.
I use Cubao Freight. Very friendly and helpful. They will also provide the packaging (aluminium chest etc. if wanted). Their number is 013 895 1634 or 895 1596 or [email protected] Ask for Umman - mobile is 0504 494 2357

In Khobar there are many located in the same downtown area. Off that rather chaotic parking space off the North Side of Dhahran Street
