I originally put this post on the off topic board but maybe it is of more relevance here. So if you are reading this for the second time, thank you for your patience.
I think I remember reading that everyone working in China is entitled to a bonus when they leave employment of one month's salary for each year they have worked. I have worked in my public university for 2 years and am leaving next month.
Does anyone have any recent experience of this or any useful information? |

Hi Ed... I don't think there is any law that entitles foreign teachers to any bonus. It is just a perk - used as bait to make your package more appealing. HOWEVER be advised that they will not pay the bonus until AFTER you renew your contract in most cases. So it really a "hook" to keep you locked into that employer. So if you did find a better-paying job elsewhere, you would essentially be forfeiting your "bonus". You may want to visit http://chinascamwatch.org and read the contract section.
