|
|
I was cheated out of $6,000 by Hellen's gang two years ago and was delighted to see her exposed here at Dave's. But now I hear she is just creating a bunch of front companies to avoid the bad press. It looks like New World ESL is one of them according to scam.com.

Next it'll be claiming it's not the exact same troll who has been banned from this forum under multiple other identities.
Just bash, ignore, then wait for the inevitable banning. |

What's with you guys? I'm not the one who brought up the CFTU - YOU did! My topic is the Hellen Group of Hangzhou. Don't tell me you are her fans - or employees? |

True Blue - This gets to the hub of the problem with you.
Hangzhou Helen has a very bad reputation, and for lots of valid reasons. Of course it's always possible that she may have changed her ways, but I think that the onus would be on her to prove that.
So, if Hangzhou Helen or the Helen Group are operating under a different name, that would be very useful information, and this thread would be useful.
But the problem. It's very unlikely you've ever had any contact with HH. You've offered absolutely no evidence that New World ESL has the same ownership.
Nothing that you say should be accorded even the slightest bit of credence. New World ESL may be awful or wonderful, (although I don't think anybody should use recruiters) but your comments and links, as with every single other thing you post under any name on any website (most of which are owned by you) should be disregarded.
That said, New World ESL should be avoided because their website http://www.newworldesl.com/#!faqs/c1vw1 suggests that non-native English speakers should come to China on a Business Visa.
This would be illegal.
They also state on the website that it is possible to get a teaching job without a degree. Not legally it's not. When this occurs it's because somebody is circumventing the law.
Also, check out the 'friends' on the site. You know, I raher suspect that they're not real people.
So, I would like to thank the CFTU for starting this thread. For the reasons I've outlined I do think that New World ESL should be avoided by everybody, native speaker or not. We shouldn't trust liars whether they're Hangzhou Helen, the OP or just a completely independent dodgy recruiter.
It seems unlikely that they are Hangzhou Helen though. Why would they be using a different address? Hangzhou Helen's most prominent guise is Chinetefl.com
http://en.chinatefl.com/about/Aboutus.aspx?item=Contact us
What kind of weirdo would spend their entire life creating new identities and websites so that they could mislead foreign teachers?
Oh actually, forget I asked.

I stand by my OP and have every reason to believe this scam.com post is true http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?t=638697 If it is not, then let the "real owners" of New World ESL come forward and present their business license that we could all verify. God knows Hellen doesn't care squat about defending her reputation at this point, and would not lift a finger to prove anything. Also, if YOU worked in Hangzhou as I did, you know that this woman has a fricking monopoly on the ESL business down there in Hangzhou, and she owns the China TEFL Academy, ChinaTEFL.com, Hanghou ESL Cafe, and god only knows what else by now. She rarely ever posts ads under her own name unless it is related to a government contract. Did you know she carries 3 mobile phones and answers each one differently?
This reminds me a lot of China ESL operation owned by that Rebecca lady who after getting slammed on all the ESL & TEFL forums, started hiring foreigners as Managers to say they were supposedly "the new owners". See the comments of David Valley at eslwatch.info where he first denied any affiliation with China ESL and then flip-flopped and said he was the new owner in a matter of one week! Then came her new company New Life ESL which was supposedly was not connected until teacher Daniel Stark came forward with emails that prove otherwise.
Hellen and Rebecca must either be related or share their playbooks with each other. They both play the name game quite well - and often. Foreign teachers in Hangzhou know all about her and the tricks she uses to conceal herself through proxies. But come contract time the truth comes out. When she hired me two years ago, it was through a blind ad and a recruiter who played the role of a "HR specialist". I was supposed to go work for "China TEFL Institute", but that is not what my contract said. After I was already in Hangzhou after a 4,000 mile journey, was I just going to home? Luckily I got paid 80% of my money. There were some teachers who got about half of what was in their contract. |

Perhaps you've answered your own question, but I wonder why you would want Helen to "come forward" to engage you or us or anyone.
So she has a bad reputation. You supposedly "know" it. Now everyone else "knows" it.
Now there's no point in carrying on about Helen in this forum. |

That part is actually true, Helen's Group is fairly dastardly.
The rest is claptrap, this guy is just another foot monkey, in a long line of foot monkeys. |

Too many of you guys just assume that every user here is a China veteran with 5+ years of living and working here that know the minefield by heart so therefore there is no need to talk about the mines.
Do you realize maybe 200-300 newbies probably visit this website , this very China section every week and don't yet know squat about what lays ahead for them? I can't speak for you but I am not one to laugh and giggle on the sidelines as a spectator as another newbie steps on a mine I knew was there two years ago and then gets his ass blown off, just so I can say "you should have known".
Maybe they should have a section of this web site dedicated to vets and another to newbies? Seriously, most of you guys have been teaching in China over 5 years and are not likely to be fooled by Hangzhou Hellen or the other usual suspects. But please stop assuming everyone shares your knowledge base - especially all the new naive kids coming to China with stars in their eyes. Its these kids that feed the scammers, breakfast, lunch. and possibly dinner as well. The rest of us are just desert if we make a slip. |

Yup, you got me yet again.
If my memory serves me correctly I've now been accused of working for about a half-dozen or so recruiters.
Back to business, yes, Helen seems bad based upon multiple stories posted on the internet.
We get it, time to move on. |

There is a newbie forum here. It's literally called, Newbie Forum.
Go stink that up with your mindless, self-serving nonsense.
Please, stop ruining the China Jobs board. If someone has gotten to the point where they are seriously considering moving their whole life to China, to work, they do not need to hear your babble. Can we just presume that they aren't morons?
Stop. |

Okay so then according to your own words, people who believe and trust the word of a professional China job recruiters are "morons" right? So the 2000+ people who believed them and then add their post-facto comments here http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?t=617489 are just morons?
Come on friend, admit it. People make mistakes in life and actually trust a stranger from time to time. Thanks for telling me abut the Newbie Forum. I frankly didn't see it and you are right, that is where I should be posting a warning or two. Happy Holidays to all of you. |

The veterans in this forum really DO try to inform those who are considering coming to China to work. The current crop of experienced forum members are probably the best and most reliable in several years.
Experienced FTs have made mistakes themselves, and they tell newbies how to avoid those mistakes. NOBODY giggles and laughs at the misfortune of others. However, those who get into trouble won't get much sympathy if they fail to do their homework before they come, deliberately circumvent the law (e.g., coming to China on a L when the Chinese consulates' websites specifically state that a Z visa is required to work); fail to perform a personal inventory to see if they are even cut out for living in China. If you read the forum (especially for the last three years) you will see that this is true. Many are told, but it seems that some (no matter what) won't take the advice: Do your homework. Right now, in this same forum, someone is conducting arguments regarding how he can bypass Chinese law and obtain a Z visa after he enters China on an inappropriate visa.
If you read posts from the past six months, you will see that those who come to the forum to ask reasonable questions are given reasonable answers. The same questions are asked repeatedly by different people, and even though the same question was asked just a few days prior, someone always steps forward to answer the question.
Something that you fail to understand is that the forum allows people with an ax to grind reasonable space to vent and to discuss the problem. That is one of the valuable functions of this forum. However when vent turns to vendetta, the forum suffers.
In your case, you have been given reasonable space to vent. Others responded to you in a reasonable manner. However, you have chosen to continue to vent and launch into tirade after tirade about one recruiter. You've vented. Everyone who reads this forum is forewarned. Mission accomplished. It's time to move on.
A reminder: The forum is not the place to push an endless personal agenda. There's a sticky about that. You did read the stickies, didn't you?

Yes.
Up to and including yourself.
And it's not about trusting or not trusting recruiters, it's about being an idiot and not spending the entire 30 seconds it would take to type "What visa do I need to teach in China?" into Google.
Or, when you're applying for the visa, asking one of the people who work there, since you're there anyways.
There is no excuse in the internet age for someone to not spend the very very very small amount of time verifying something like this.
Linking to a website that links to other CFTU/open forum websites does not constitute proof of anything. |
