Why do universities in China offer such low pay? They are consistently lower than middle and primary schools. I understand why the highest pay is with kindergartens. I have worked in them before. No doubt you earn your salary with them. But, what makes a university pay less in China?

Do the universities offer a different benefits package that loads the money on other benefits? Are the teaching hours different? I would love to work at a university. But, the difference in pay of 2000-4000 RMB a month is significant.

First of all,

the schedule is damn easy, with long holidays with pay.
Unless u get suckered into working over 12-14 hours a week, half flight pay and half vacation pay.

Public primary school..usually working more hours.

Some universities in my area are requiring their teachers to be in the office when they're not teaching--they only teach 12 hours, but they're there from 8 to 5. The pay is significantly above a university that doesn't demand office hours...

Damn easy? Really? 20-22 hours per week if the school can't hire enough teachers? preparing for and teaching three separate subjects each week? Commuting to other campuses by city bus? That's easy?

The public universities pay FTs less because the government allocates less money.

Language schools are private enterprises that pay more in wages because they charge students a lot of money. Thus, the teachers are paid more. In the west, those who work in the public sector are, generally, paid less too.

Public university teachers accept less pay than they would get if they worked for private language centers for many reasons. These reasons have been hashed many times during the past year, so there's no point in going over it.
