I see a lot of job adverts lately requesting that an applicant have a Bachelors in English or TESOL. I'm wondering if I should apply to these positions (assuming I wanted to) with a BA in Communications and a Master of Education in TESOL, with a TESL certificate earned in Korea afterwards? I have heard that hiring officers assume a BA in English means you are taught all the intricacies of grammar and can answer pretty much any question posed, whereas a Masters is simply theory in teaching. I do not have a CELTA. |
In my experience, an M.Ed. in TESOL would easily trump a BA in English in most employers' eyes. That said, in some places in the world, visa regulations might specify that the BA has to be related to the job, though I think that is fairly rare. |

Depends a lot on who and where you intend to apply to for a job. |

Ditto what others have posted. Besides, it's very likely those ads are merely indicating the minimum degree requirements. |
