Hi Everyone
Ive been told that many classes in Saudi , teachers are given a handbook and most times we as teachers have to adapt it for the lesson
can someone
1. post a link to a pdf of a workbook so can have a look at it
2. provide some idea of what kind of 'modification' is required eg is the lesson read out 'by rote' or how much can we improvise based on the original text
3. how much time is generally required to prepare a lesson ( examples please). For example on my CELTA course it took me one night to prepare a lesson ( a few hours)
Obviously all schools are different with different requirements but if you could provide examples Id appreciate it
Thanks |

Who told you that? That wasn't my experience in KSA; the only workbook I used for teaching was the one that supplemented the coursebook---no modifications nor hours of lesson planning necessary. We incorporated additional instructor-created materials but at our own discretion. Frankly, that's typical of many teaching situations regardless of the context, country, etc.
You didn't provide the name of the university or facility where you'll be teaching, but perhaps they have a teachers' webpage with materials and resources you can access. You can also ask on their Facebook page, if one exists. Otherwise, stop overthinking things. Wait until you get to the job for a real sense of how and what you'll teach. |

Exactly. I suspect that this is not a typical situation. Better that you apply to a few employers... see if you get an offer... and then ask about what happens at that employer.
Otherwise you are just asking about something that you will never encounter anyway.

In my experience a book is often also an entire course. If that is what you mean, then yes, the book will have to be adapted, supplemented, ignored at times, etc.
Supplement, omit, adapt, replace. Or, SOAR. SOAR! |
