Hola como andan? just thought i`d let anyone out there that`s interested that getting a CUIT or CUIL number is actually quite difficult, i`ve tried a few times to get one but have been turned away each time. I speak spanish and also went with an argentinian but to no avail. I did, however manage to get a CDI, which is another type of tax number and alllows you to open a bank account with no problems at all. I got this by going to an AFIP office and saying i was buying a property here and needed this tax number to sign.

I don`t know (yet) whether this can be used as personal tax number for work but it may make things easier.

Any questions, let me know on this message board. Chao, que se vaya bien, matt

Matt, (or anyone else out there)
I'm cominig out to Argentina in September. I lived there 97-99 and had a great time but I guess things have changed a lot since then. I'd be grateful if you could give an update on the situation.
1) Any success with the Cuit/cuil numbers- is not having a work visa a problem?
2) general availability of work and rate of pay
3) cost of living
Would be most grateful for any insight you have. I know a lot of these issues have already been covered in past posts but some of these may be quite out of date by now.
Many thanks

Dominic

I haven`t actually been working recently but have met a couple of teachers who said they were getting about 12pesos an hour working through a school-they said this was pretty standard. I think that if you can get private students you`ll earn more money but finding them is the problem. There`re work available but it doesn`t come easily.

Costs of living out here are unbelievably low if you`re living off foreign currency but reasonably high if you`re reliant on your teachers wages. A big luch of steak and chips/salad and a drink will set you back between 6 and 12 pesos, or about 2.50 pounds ($4 -ish i think) for example. A very decent place to live will cost about $2-300 a month, a luxury 2 bed apartment with everything included costs $600 a month.

If you were here before the crash then what you`ll notice most (from what locals have told me, i`ve only been here for a few months) is the disrepair the pavements and streets have fallen into and the much higher crime rate (the paper Clarin dedicates at least 4 pages a day to crime matters in the city)...i, personally, feel safer walking around BsAs at night than London and have never had any problem with taxis or street crime, but it really does happen if you`re not careful or have a bit of bad luck...

As for the CUIT numbers, i`m still none the wiser as i won`t be looking for work here until after winter so i haven`t really thought about it.

If you have any more questions just let me know, matt

Matt,
Many thanks for getting back to me. Very useful info. Had a great time teaching English when I was last in Buenos Aires and although things have changed a lot can't wait to go back. As for crime, I guess thats a problem in most places these days.
Thanks again,

Dominic

Matt, Cool
I am Marcela from Santa Fe, in Argentina. Very Happy
You said you needed CUIT/CUIL for work, yes? I had mine through internet in this website http://www.anses.gov.ar/cuil.htm , and I even printed it and have it pasted to a plastic case, so I didnt have to be on a line for a long time. Do you have a DNI?
My husband being american, will need his own CUIT/CUIL for work also once he gets his DNI as a foreigner.
Hope to hear from you soon! Very Happy

As far as I know, you need to have a DNI # to get your CUIT/CUIL.
Good luck!

Guille
