Other than PayPal, what tools are freelance, online teachers using to receive payments from students, and how do you manage currency exchanges?
Thanks in advance for any info. |

There are a few options:
Paypal
Credit cards (get a merchant account - not that hard to do through various on-line services).
Work through a 3rd party who takes care of billings and bookings (has its own set of issues)
IF you want to be independent then the more forms of payment you can deal with the easier it is to work. C/C merchant accounts are best but take some work to set up.
Being able to accept paypal is a benefit for clients in some countries but in the larger EFL markets it isn't an option (no way to move money into or out of the account).
IF you want to work through a 3rd party source then the billing is theirs to worry about and you just have to live with the cost as part of doing business.

Thanks for your response.
I've started to look at Stripe (which I think is an example of the credit card model you mention) and also elance, but my general understanding of things outside of Paypal and ACH is pretty shaky. Haven't looked at 2checkout yet, but I've seen that mentioned as a possibility. |
