Hi All

Can anyone verify whether its true that contractors will care more about your experience as a whole as opposed to some direct hire who only care about post-MA experience, or is this only some places?

And if post-MA experience is all they care about, is it best for me to work in my native country and continue to build experience/my CV?

Secondly what are the perks of direct hire over contractor?

Last , how does anyone get to attend the TESOL fairs if you are in the UK? Cant imagine anyone flying out to attend a fair, to apply.

Thanks!

As I recall, you presently have two unrelated BAs, a CELTA, and a couple of years of experience. That's enough to get you hired by a contracting company. However, if you want to maximize your chances for direct-hire university positions, you should aim for a relevant MA and a minimum of two years' post-MA experience teaching adults. By the way, the governments of KSA, Qatar, and Kuwait don't recognize university degrees that included online/distance coursework.

Generally, direct-hire employment equates to more pay, richer benefits, and better working conditions. See "The skinny on direct-hire university opportunities" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=103722).

Although TESOL Arabia is the main venue for direct-hire recruiting in the region, IATEFL's job fair in April in the UK attracts some Mid East employers. You might check both TESOL Arabia's and IATEFL's websites for job ads over the next couple of months to see what qualifications/requirements employers are looking for.

IATEFL is in Manchester in 2015. Quite pricey but certainly cheaper if you have a UK base than flying pout to Dubai. Do a Google.
