I'm from the USA and my wife is from the Philippines. We are currently teaching at a college in China.
Are there any requirements that would bar her from teaching in Saudi Arabia?
Thanks

It would be helpful to know you and your wife's qualifications (i.e., degrees/majors, TEFL cert, experience). Also, does she hold a US passport?

Filipino teacher with Filipino passport might get US$1,000 a month (=SR3750). It could be less than that. Better to try one of the international schools, but salary will definitely be low.

We both have our MA degree in education. Her passport is from the Philippines. She is a certified teacher and she has her TESOL.
We both have taught several years in China at the college level. I have also taught at the college/university level in South Korea. I taught one year in Japan as well. |

A near native speaker will make 7000 Riyals. To get an English job she would have to be very good at speaking English. There are already a lot of Philippino workers doing office work here with strong English skills. Which brings up another point, she could do that kind of work also. |

I guess you mean office administrative work, not the other work like cleaning and serving white coffee and tea to lazy Saudis! |

Obviously, she should apply for positions from outside Saudi Arabia; however, it's likely she'll end up being hired from within while under your sponsorship. In other words, you get hired and issued a residence permit; she then joins you as a trailing spouse and can apply for teaching jobs as a local hire. That means less pay with minimal to no benefits, but she should be able to get hired.
You didn't mention if you have children. If so, make sure the employers you apply with provide education assistance for school-aged dependents---many do not, or the amount isn't enough. Otherwise, your wife could homeschool them instead of pursuing teaching work. |

Try Bahrain. Bahrain Training Institute has plenty of excellent Filipino teachers, and they appear to be happy with their package. |

However, an ad from last year indicated a requirement of 5 years of experience and that female applicants must be single. |

So does Oman in the CAS Colleges and they get paid the same as Western ex-pats. |

Hi,
I have lived in the US since 1998 and my English is very good (near native proficiency ). I have a US passport and I'll be graduating Spring 2015 (BS in IT Management). I work as an ESL paraprofessional at an elementary public school here in US.
I am interested in getting an ESL teacher job in Saudi Arabia but I heard they only hire native speakers only. Is there a possibility to take US citizens but non native??? And if Yes, will the pay be very low comparing to what native speakers get?
Any input will be very helpful.
And by the way I am an Arabic native speaker plus I am fluent in French, will this be an advantage in an Arabic country such as Saudi Arabia?
Thanks. |

I was at one of the largest unis in the KSA and most of our staff was non-native.
Getting women is almost impossible. And I know they hire non-natives.
But the Saudis have no idea how to treat guests so.... |
