I feel overwhelmed with information, plus I am worried about my no-degree status. Please help me to decide -
1. Where to go??
2. Whether to apply for work before I leave or when I get there??
3. What do I do about visas for the country you recommend given my no degree status??
I am 53 yrs old & I taught for 6 months in China five years ago. I am conscientious and committed to doing a good job.
*** I need something fairly well paying, at least for the first year
*** My preference is SE Asia or China again (also keen on South America but I understand it doesn't pay much)
*** I don't like very cold countries
Your help is much appreciated
PS ~ sorry, I have asked a similar question before..I just get overwhelmed with information then I get busy and keep coming back to this question. [/b] |

Sharona:
Please reread your previous threads (below); your options haven't changed since you last asked this question a month ago. |

The bottom line for (east) Asia is "sorry".
As of 2015 and the implementation of the AEC comes into force there is NO opportunity for a non-degreed "teacher" to find "legal" work (defined as having the proper visa and work permit(s) as a teacher within the ASEAN +6 block. (there are still plenty of opportunities for "illegal work")
You might get lucky in western Asia or find work as a teacher by using an incorrect visa class (business visa instead of "Z" visa in China as an example).
The risks are yours to bear as are the consequences should you be "discovered".
On the bright side, working as a "tourist teacher" will usually only get you a fine and/or kicked out of a country. Don't use fake documents. Visa fraud is a criminal matter and can get you real jail time.

I doubt you'll be able to get a well-paying job without having a degree, especially if you're limited to Latin America.
It's unclear what other skills you have, but another option is to look for work in non-TEFL positions---maybe in the hotel or bed-n-breakfast (hospitality) industry. Obviously, this would be an option if your main interest is being overseas in some exotic locale.

I think we've spelled out all of the options for you pretty clearly in your previous discussion threads. You just need to buckle down, sift through the material, and make some choices. There's not really anything new that we can tell you. |
