I am currently a teacher in an elementary school for the last 19 years in America, I just turned 40. I have a Bachelors in Elementary Ed (K-6 certified). Do I still need TEFL? I really want to go but don't understand the details to get there. Can someone explain how the whole process works through places like TeachAway from application, to apply, to interview, to then teaching in front of students. I'm missing how the middle part works. What salary can I expect from my credentials? |

Few, if any, members here work for Teachaway or teach K-12 (the vast majority of EFL teachers in the Gulf teach adults... university/military/oil business)
You might try checking Facebook as Teachaway has a teacher's page there (or did in the past). There are probably some teachers out there with blogs that you could google up.
Sometimes the best way to find out things like this is to apply, see if you get an interview, and then ask most of the Q's in the interview.

No, you don't need a TEFL cert to teach as elementary school in the UAE, although an ESOL endorsement from your home state is useful.
Teach Away's site is quite comprehensive, so take time to really read through it. There's also a teachers' forum and/or facebook page---do an Internet search on teach away forum. Ditto for a video search using teach away abu dhabi, where they've posted quite a few informational videos---some are from teachers already in the UAE. Once you apply, your Teach Away contact person will be able to answer questions specific to your background. |
