I wonder if they have MPF? When the pay is listed out as hourly you must take notice.
I would go for a base salary or run for the hills!! |

I haven't heard of this place, so I don't want to speak ill of them. But I agree with Freddie on this one. I think they should give you a guaranteed monthly min salary. What if the students your teaching cancel - you don't get paid? You better find that out and make sure it's in the contract.
Also they mention you get a travel allowance, ok, but that means they won't pay the entire amount. You should find out what percentage they pay and how many classes are held outside of their centre. Also I assume you will have to initially pay for transport then they will pay you a percentage back. For example, if they pay 50%, you pay it all then the centre will pay you back 50%. When they pay you back (less the allowance), make sure it isn't thrown in with your salary as this is already your money and you would be taxed on it. In otherwords, get seperate cheques.
I would guess if you don't have much experience they would pay at the lower end of the range, then if you have to pay out of your own pocket to go to different locations around the city -- or even the N.T. it could put a dent in your pocketbook. A lot of tutorial centres do the same thing.
I've learnt the hard way - rule number 1 in H.K. ALWAYS get it in black and white because any dispute the Labour board will go by what it says in the contract.
I hope this helps. |

Given the amount of English teachers already in HK, I find it very strange that they are looking for someone outside HK. Maybe they are looking for someone who will feel indebted or cannot change jobs so easily? Just speculating, but why pay air fare when there are plenty of people already in HK who would love to earn 30k a month? |

I agree that it does seem a bit strange that they are advertising for teachers outside HK...? I'm not exactly ready to leave my current position to take on something like this, but the ad did seem initially interesting if I were to recommend it to friends. I don't know though...why are they advertising for out-of-towners?
Strange that noone has really heard of them.
Also, do any of the language schools (not university positions or gov't schools) actually give you a guaranteed salary per month or is it mostly per hour? |

I know the place, it does advertise quite a bit but I think this might be the first time they have advertised here. It's basically a language centre where you have classes there and around Hong Kong. After the interview I declined as I decided it wasn't for me although someone else I spoke to said that they actually have a surveillance camera in each of their "classrooms". Personally, I hate the whole filming thing. Can anyone clarify is they still do this or not? |

They used to offer about $18,500 for 25 hrs teaching (all over town). That ain't a good offer. If they pay by the hour nowadays every centre is much the same - about 200-250ph. You'll make 30k a month if you teach 30hrs a week but at almost every language centre that would mean lots of travel, 12+ hr days and weekend work. Think twice, my friend.... |

It looks like 30,000 a month based on the rate and hours. But this is a recruiting firm that prefers to send you out to various sites. Anyone know something about them? |
Why? Are you seeking employment? Why do you not get some of your 'friends in the government' to fix you up with a top notch post? |
