Hi everybody,
I've been teaching kindergarten in a high ESL population school (Hispanic pop. > 85%) and I've taken 2 years of Spanish as well as a recent intermediate booster class. I'm in the process of finding a way to learn more Spanish this year. I'm certified to teach K - 6 and have a BA in English.
I've done tons of research online, but there's soo much information and a lot of sketchy sounding programs--I almost signed up for Oxford Seminars but researched on this board and decided to go with something else.
I've read about CELTA being the gold-standard, but I'm also wondering if my current experience changes or lessens what kind of credentials I'd need?
I'm mainly interested in working in Mexico, preferably Mexico City, Spain, or somewhere a bit "posh" or "trendy"--I've also got a wife and dog and cat I'd like to bring.
So, I'm wondering where to go for more information, and if my Latin Fantasy sounds doable/like a good idea. Really any good info or advice is much appreciated. Thanks for reading. |

Where to go next? Try the Mexico job discussion forum for useful advice.
As for teaching in Spain, that's not likely to happen unless you also hold an EU passport. However, you might look into DoDEA and American curriculum international schools in Spain if you're interested in teaching English (language arts) to the children of US expats. |

I should also mention that while I have worked with all grades K - 6, and taught K for five years, that I am very open to working with adults. Teaching in an inner-city school has been very draining, so I think teaching adults would be a fun path to try for a while.
I am also looking to get the certification that will give me the most and best options. |

Thanks, Nomad. I was going to post there after getting my feet wet in this subforum. I visited Mexico (Yucatan) over the summer and loved it so much. That being said, Mexico is just the first place that came to mind, but it seems logical since I enjoyed it so much. I am also open to other locations. |
