Hi all, this is my first post, so i thank you for your patience...
Ive taken my time to read your posts and the information has been invaluable, so thank you.
I am clear on most things, but have one question.
Im 46 yrs old, dual nationality, born UK, and now US citizen, and I am hoping to do a TEFL course in Thailand in April / May this year, with the intention to teach there permanently.
As part of my initial immigration into the USA, to obtain an H1B, i obtained an experienced based degree in Business Management.
For those that don't know, you can, quite legally, obtain an honorary degree based on your work experience, 4 years of employment equals one year of a college degree, therefor, 16 yrs of work is equated to a 4 year degree, therefor equals a BA in Business Management.
The US immigration allows this as a a path to an H1B, which I renewed twice, then followed on to a green card, and then to citizenship.
So, does anyone know if this "honorary degree" is sufficient to obtain a visa to teach in Thialand or do i need an "educational" degree?
Alternatively, does the government have any similar reciprocity for experience being able to be transferred to a Degree qualification?
I thank you in advance for your consideration.
Sincerely

If your university is NOT in the list of properly accredited universities (ie: a diploma mill) then the simple answer is no and by offering one you open yourself up to a potential charge of visa fraud (how does a couple years in a Thai detention center sound?).
If you don't have a legitimate degree (the type where you do 3-4 years of coursework) then fly in as a tourist, do your TEFL and pound the pavement looking for a job.
While "legal" work (defined as having a proper visa and work permit) is not going to be an option there is always work around and there will always be some agency willing to hire you. At least working as a tourist will only get you deported if caught.
Come to SE Asia, get a double entry tourist visa and "Bob's yer Uncle".
The best time to be here looking for work (TEFL completed) is late April. Jobs abound, schools are desperate and most of the backpacker crowd has returned home after the winter.
