I have been teaching for a year and have been offered a job in Taiwan to work 95 hours a month for NT60 000, is this fair or is it the bottom of the scale as other blog's have led me to believe? |

Hello jht,
Sorry that you've not received any replies, so far.
That's not a bad offer at all. Teaching 95 hours a month is a lot.
I think 4 hours per day should be your limit--and that's 5 days a week, no weekends.
Are there any other teachers already working at that location? If so, try to find out more details about city vs. rural, the schedule, any perks available?
Best wishes,

It partly depends on where it is. 60K is the MINIMUM I would consider to be a "legit offer" to anyone. I.E. it's not necessary to simply laugh in the face of the person making the offer.
However, that would be more reasonable at 22 hours a week and well outside Taipei. I guess for one year of experience, it would be okay-ish. |

Remember though, if you are going through a recruiter, they're probably taking an amount that, after everything, works out to 5-10k per month for the first year... So, think about this when you're negotiating at places you find interviews for. |

I think it's a fair offer, it breaks down to about 24 hours a week, which isn't too bad.
It is nice to have salary and guaranteed hours, because depending on the time of year you arrive it may be a while before you build up a full schedule, so that may mean very small paychecks for the first few months. You'll be making a full salary right off the bat, although I'm sure they'll make you work for it. |
