Unless the Chinese government comes out with a special retirement visa and work visas cannot be issued if over 60 to foreigners, have any of you actually thought about how to retire in China and open your business or ???
Maybe just getting out of teaching while you are still young? What would you do to sustain a good life for yourself?
The reason I ask is because teachers here in China can live comfortably so long as they are here where the cost of living is low. But can they really afford to return home and spend up to a year finding a professional job?
What is your long game plan for China - if you have one? |

| I'll probably devote 100% of my life and free time to spamming a forum for (prospective) ESL teachers. Oh wait, I'm not a giant tool. |

LOL,
I always wonder if some of these guys are "DAVE" or someone getting paid to put this crap up.
After all,MR. DAVE is getting rich of off selling advertisements while we fools continue to contribute to this forum fulfilling our altruistic or egoistic needs.
WE BE THE SUCKAS. |

I am eagerly awaiting the day where a long term Kiwi ESLer will return home from China and declare, "It's finally time to leave the Middle Kingdom and return to Middle Earth."
Perhaps PJ could get three movies out of an expat's one dimensional experience of China? |

Actually the count-down has begun. We get to zero when Beijing visibility hits three feet. |

Hi and happy new year all.
I for one...Lived and "worked" in China from 2004 to 2014. Last summer
I felt it was time to go back home. Low and behold and all the USA culture shock and all. I have tried to find a professional job to my liking.
Guess what? There is none. Anyways I am contemplating of making a return. I have like 3 more years before the 60 effect takes foot.
Going back or staying both are over rated...with a HUGE LOL! |

This is gold!
I am actually curious. What is the standard rate these days to keep coming up with different personas and backgrounds every month to spam the same information on forums, get kicked, rinse and repeat. Can't imagine it's as good as going out and getting a legitimate job. Any insight SK? |

| Unless you personally washed the Great Helmsman's socks during the Long March, the possibility of getting a real residence permit that would enable you to build up a business and enjoy the fruits thereof, is slim. |

Are you guys all 50+ or something? You can teach elsewhere after you're done in China.
Either that or retire to Thailand. |

I'm already over the 60 mark (and I'm still getting my FEC and RP). The plan?
Keep on doing what I'm doing now until I'm about 67 or 68, because I'm enjoying it, then it's off to a relaxing seaside location (with the Chinese wife) and the house we will have bought by then.
Financially? UK state pension, plus UK military pension, plus UK company pension, plus Chinese company pension, plus substantial savings will all add up to a comfortable retirement. |

That's great, a lot of those who are on the heavy side of 60 can no longer get the FEC. You have proven tht it is possible to work things out to your benefit. |

A teacher approaching 60 may have spent many years working in lucrative locations such as the Middle east or Korea and therefore saved a ton of money.
The biggest problem for such a teacher is deciding which tropical paradise to chill in. |
