I just got the below from my RSS feed and it reminded me of the time I uploaded my resume for 1 particular job and then got calls from 7 different agents who wanted to interview me because I allegedly graduated from "Stanford University" which I did not! Someone fudged my resume without my knowledge nor consent and then sent it all over with my photo too! So when I read this here, I thought it is worth sharing with you all...

And this one is heinous: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20141001205150AAXlCQJ

Yeah, I know... TIC!

This is just one reason why you never put your real name on your resume, and you never post it in a public forum or on a public job employment board. Do NOT put your location except for your country if you are in your home country. State your degree(s), experience--- relative and not relative--- but keep it short.

For once I agree with Bud. This is a damn good idea. I also think that we only need to give our passport no. and expiration date until we actually meet our direct employer and then we can let them copy our passport. Why? Try this on for size http://chinascamwatch.wordpress.com or just google "China foreign teacher job resume scam".

Pray tell, how does one do that if he applies from his home country?

Why the CTFU stuff again mate? ..... ?
I mean, yes one shouldn't post such direct information, but one shouldn't post information related to the CTFU either. It's a bit creepy mate.

Maybe I wasn't clear or maybe you misunderstood. There is no reason to send a recruiter or agency a full scan of your passport. They only need to know it's expiration date, issuing country, and passport no. (and your name of course) and you can send this info from wherever you are.

If and when you get a job offer and a contract, you can send a scan of your passport directly to the school principal, FAO, or HR Director. Never give anyone your taxpayer ID number (SSN).

I never upload my resume to any blind ad that has no verifiable company info, at least not any more. Two years ago I uploaded my resume to Echinacities.com and I was bombarded with calls and emails within ten days from no less than 50 or 60 agents and some guy who wanted me to tutor his son in the UK for $100usd an hour. (turned out to be a check scam) Then I got a second wave of calls and emails from Austen Morris, Montpelier, Joanna Real Estate, and people wanting to sell me Chinese lessons, tefl courses, air filters, yoga lessons, bar-b-q grills, dating services and a bunch of shit I never inquired about. I finally had to abandon my old email address because of all the shit spam. Now I use hush mail and only email my resume to specific employers and deliberately mispell my last name and leave out my address. I also bought an efax telephone number just for dealing with new China people and online job ads. My former colleague from Wall Street got caught up in an ID theft scam that cost him about $10,000 to clean up with a lawyer, and after seeing what he went through, I'm not taking any unnecessary risks.
