How common is it to find a young female teaching adults ESL courses? Just curious.

AND

To all the females out there...!!!...how are you treated/respected/recieved etc. as an ESL teacher in Thailand? And elsewhere?

As a female you'll be in demand but more for kids classes than adult classes (although TiT so anything possible).

You should make sure you do the extra kids course at ECC as the CELTA only covers adults and most teachers bread and butter (if you want a '9-5' 5 days a week job) is teaching kids (which IMO is much harder than teaching adult classes).

I know quite a few female teachers (PM me if you want me to put you in touch with any of them) here and the main problem (or so it seems to me) is it can get a bit lonely here for them...if you know what I mean?

I worked in Thailand a couple years ago and met several other female teachers. As for being "received," it's a conservative culture and the locals you meet will be surprised because you didn't arrive attached to a boyfriend, and men will often have ideas about you being a loose western woman, which is cool if you like dating a lot, but annoying if people you're not attracted to keep bothering you. The foreign guys you meet are difficult to make friends with because they're mostly interested in partying and talking to women Edited by Mr. Kalgukshi 08-6-04(and "Asian girls are better than Western because A, B and C, blah, blah, blah). But overall, I felt okay living in Thailand just sticking with a few genuine Thai friends and co-workers and enjoying little trips around the country. No major hassles due to being female, just fewer social resources for foreign women.
