I see few advertisments for Oman. Does anyone have any contacts or suggestions on sites where I can locate possible positions.

Those few ads you saw from TATI and Hawthorn represent many of the university/college TEFL positions in Oman---the minimum is usually a TEFL-related BA + 2-4 years of experience. If you have a TEFL-related MA + a couple of years of university experience, look into Sultan Qaboos University, which does its own recruiting and hiring (see their website). Ditto for the Ministry of Higher Ed, which requires 4+ years of university TEFL experience.

You'd need to apply for Oman teaching positions from outside the country. Jobs teaching adults in language schools are generally filled locally. To teach children in international schools, you'd likely need a teaching license from your home country.

If your qualifications fall short for Oman but you still have an interest in teaching in the region, look at ads for Saudi Arabia on the Cafe's job board.

University of Nizwa also does its own hiring. I know a couple of people there.

Several people I know in Oman have had luck with just dropping in on a department and asking to speak to the chair. That behavior would be considered pushy in most countries, but I've seen people here get impromptu interviews on the spot, followed shortly by offers.

is star32569 a bit early as the annual TESOL Conferences in the UK, N. America and the Middle East are right around the corner and the better employers/direct hire positions (particularly Sultan Qaboos University) give preference to applicants who can attend? for those of us applying for jobs outside of the country/unable to attend the conferences, can we shoot for mid April for the hiring season to heat up?

From my own employment experience, I know there will be at least two more recruitment waves till the new academic year starts. The last one will be last-minute positions to be taken over after the ones who, though recruited, decided not to show up eventually. Then you will still have some more random chances, when those who have shown up, after a brief attempt at the rural Oman decided to vanish in the air.

If you keep track of employment calls for colleges in Oman, you will notice that the major recruiters put them out at regular intervals. Also, the private unis do it pretty regularly and out of the high season too.

In general, there is nothing wrong in sending your CV to all places of your ineterst any time that suits you, not necessarilly only then when their ad is out.
If your CV shines a little more than the dim average, it may be stored up by the place of your focus and you may be contacted by them when any urgent need arises. In my Oman MoHE college as well as uni experience, the employment situation there is very fluid all year through, and there were new faces all - and every - semester through, truly many new faces non-stop, so employement there is a never-ending story.

Also, it is wise to apply through the MoHE website - they may contact you again after some time, and quite by surprise, especially if your CV is as starry as a starry July night.

Anyone have any information about teaching in the Bachelor of Education in English program through the College of A and S at the University of Nizwa? I've read some pretty terrible things about the Foundations Institute, but am wondering if anyone knows anything about the Bachelor in English programs. Cheers.
