Dear All,
Im planning to take my TESOL or CELTA course in Indonesia later this year and I'm overwhelmed by the schools and courses available.
Could you, with all impartiality, make any recommendations?
I'm totally unconcerned as to the location, I am just interested in the best course, bearing in mind I would like to stay there and gain employment after my hopeful qualification.
I thank you sincerely in advance.

Stick with a brand name CELTA program. Typically, any location will do as the course is standardized regardless of where you take it. If it's offered in more than one location, you might inquire as to whether or not courses fill up quickly or, conversely, it they are ever cancelled due to low enrollment. All other considerations being equal, go with a CELTA at the location that's most likely to meet minimum enrollment requirements at the time of year you want to attend. |

I took my CELTA at The British Institute in South Jakarta. I thought the instructors were excellent: both professional and very encouraging.
The facility is good with a small canteen, working computers, photocopiers and a helpful admin staff.
The best part was the on-boarding info TBI supplied which was a detailed map of the area (including restaurants and housing). I was able to find a decent kost (one-room dorm) about 3 blocks away and could walk to school without dealing with the nightmare of Jakarta traffic.
Also, since TBI is a working school there are opportunities to meet teachers who are already working there.
Overall, TBI's well-planned strategy took a lot of stress out of the small things like where to eat, live, etc. |
