It seems as though KFUPM is hiring every six months. They have close to 100 teachers so I guess it is expected.
Anyone have any reports?
It is supposed to be the best job in the country. |

Unfortunately it has lousy pay... although you can boost this if you work through your long summer holiday instead of spending your lousy annual pay supporting yourself somewhere else over the summer.
apart from that, it's a reputable employer. It's just not big bucks any more. |

It's not that uncommon for universities to recruit every six months---once for the start of each new academic year and again for mid-year. As for pay, you should give an example of what you mean by"lousy" since most direct-hire employers calculate salaries based on a variety of factors---verified employment being one of them. Besides, what's lousy to you may not be for someone else. |

The academic year has two semesters and in theory teachers can start in September or in February. There are financial disadvantages to joining in February.
Recruitment is an ongoing process. You can apply anytime. |

There are better places, and surely worse.
I worked at KFUPM for 2.5 years and can say I know nothing about current hiring practices.
But, if indeed, they are offering jobs every 6-months, there will be someone qualified and reckless enough to snag them.
They pay decently and save potential is there.
Me, I hated being in that country. Others can deal. Personally, I doubt OP's message that KFUPM is that desperate for hires. They'll always have applicants.
Pretty good gig if one can deal. But don't be too sad if they rejected you. Lots of other places in world not as (MOD edit).... better countries to live abound..Why the f#%4% live in KSA if not to try to hoard some dough?
Chin up and screw questioning hire policies at places you probably don't even want to work at to begin with...
best of luck... |

IOW, there are better gigs in the country if dough is your motivation. |

You can make more $ if you have a science degree or advanced degrees. |

Some go to KSA after screwing up their lives on Planet Earth. That is what happened to me. More than once. |

a haven for divorced men....alcoholics....social misfits....and those that prefer men (not that there is anything wrong with that).
a few ambitious types go there.....meet their financial goals and leave before insanity sets in.
Seems I didn't leave soon enough. |

I would never call it a haven but would say that if you are an introvert who loves movies and reading (things you can do indoors) or you like snorkeling and scuba... you will survive.
I said it many times - the best part of Saudi Arabia is under water.
Also, if you are a serious teacher, dont go. |

Just how "lousy?" King Saud University about 5 years ago was paying about 12000SAR/month for teachers without MAs, and around 16000SAR for those with MAs.
Is KFUPM roughly in the same ballpark? |

yep, that's how lousy. Teacher with 5 years' experience there was on 12,000 last year and was getting 1-2% pay rises. Not my idea of a retirement fund esp if I have to fund three month long breaks out of the kingdom every summer |
