Interesting review of an interesting film. But, how annoying is the reviewer's voice and accent! Surely this is some sort of affectation, and nobody really speaks like this? Anyone?

Sounds like a California accent to me. |

Is there such a thing as a "gay voice" - and not just the "lisp" by any means? |
There is a whole area of linguistics that investigates speech of homosexuals / gay-sounding speech, and has been around since the 1940s. Check here, here, here, and here for some info. |

I blush to admit it, but I have heard a guy speak and thought to myself "Hmm, he sounds 'gay'."
That was my first impression on hearing the review on the link Sasha provided. |
Apparently, the reviewer isn't. He's mentioned a fiancée in the comments section of another of his YouTube videos. |

fiancée doesn't necessary indicate gender, though. |

He mentions "she" in his post. It's in the comments section of his Gone With the Wind review (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvVM_uMz7Ok). |

That is above and beyond, Nomad Soul! Glad you cleared that up, as I couldn't imagine a fey-sounding man ever being married to a woman. |

In that case, I too will have to assume it's just a California thang. |

Except for the fact that among gays, it would seem that "she" is not always a reliable indicator of gender.
"However, and I know this is a common thing: he and his friends will refer to each other as "she" when one of them is taking a long time to get ready, is being a pain, or being overly dramatic. Even in popular culture, this seems to be generally accepted."
Regards,
John |

Oh dear. So many subissues here. But seriously. Am I alone in finding this mode of speaking painful? |

No, you're not alone. This type of speaking sounds familiar to me ( I'm from the U.S., but not from California). I certainly hope I don't speak like this and it seems like such a weird voice for a narrator. |

Yes it does, single e at the end is masculine, double e is feminine. |

Yes, I wrote it that way, but in the video it's only oral, so still unclear. |
