What's up teachers!

I know this is a vague question, but where's the best place to teach English if you want to get away from the world for a while?

I'm feeling particularly overwhelmed by all the stuff going on around me, and I would love to day dream a little. I am curious to know where you all would recommend moving to if you wanted to live a simple life away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Who knows, maybe I'll sell it all and dissapear.

I haven't tried to do something like that before, so keep that in mind. I'm not the most well-traveled, but I think I could make a few suggestions.

First, if you want to do this somewhere while teaching, odds will likely be long. Jobs tend to be concentrated in cities because that's where people are. So if you want to remain a teacher while getting away from it all, you'll have your work cut out for you. I think it is possible, but you'll have to deal with two issues: 1. fewer jobs, and 2. lower pay. Assuming you can accept that, then you could really try looking into it.

Second, you should research population density in various countries you are interested in. China, India, and much of Asia would be out. You could, however, go to villages in, say, China, and have this effect. Just think of the boredom though. Be prepared for that. I've felt really bored in China and I lived in a city of a few million!

I would think Russia might be a good possibility. Australia only has around 25 million people, so that's possibly the lowest population density in the world. The U.S. has 300 something million people but that's actually a low population density considering the size of the country. And since the U.S. has very developed rural areas, you could possibly achieve this without leaving home (well, if you're an American anyway...)

Good luck, I'd be interested if you'd report back once you figured out a place for doing this.

All you have to do is go to Dave's Job Board and search the word 'rural'. I found two current ones in Cambodia, and one each in Tanzania, Bolivia and France just by doing that. Nearly every day there are new ones, albeit not always rural.

Just in case you are so laid back you can't even do that much, here is what I've found:

The rest is up to you. Break a leg.

"Get away from Society" You mean like Robinson Crusoe ? How will you do that and find people to teach ? Have you thought this one through ?

Some parts of inner-city London have almost no society at all, and little spoken English either. But it is as the Iron Lady wanted...

A touch on the crowded side, though...

Sorry, Scot, but there won't be another referendum in the UK for another generation...

Go to the north coast of the Dominican Republic and live off your savings for a couple of months, preferably AFTER hurricane season is over.

Alternatively, join the Peace Corps and request the most remote and isolated posting they have available.

Public schools in rural Korea are great to work at. They can be isolated have nice scenery and provide quick bus service to Seoul or Busan within a couple of hours.

I've heard that Vladivostok is an interesting place to teach. Alternatively, you might check out the American University of Iraq in Sulaimani, Kurdistan.

Potential risk for suicide bombers in Kurdistan now that it looks like the despicable ISIS is going to lose. They're not concerned about the welfare of their fellow Muslim brothers and it says American on it.

Good point! I wonder if the author of the article I linked to is still there. In any case, if the OP's looking to get away from it all, heading directly into the 5 o'clock headline news probably isn't a good idea.
