|
|
Hey everyone! I am attending a face to face TEFL course outside of my home country (USA). I'm hoping to be able to be able to coordinate moving into a job as quickly as possible after the completion of the Certificate (Late April). I realize the timing might not be great, so I'm not set on any specific destination. Because I'm not set on a destination I know this might be hard to answer. I'm wondering what documents would be essential to have with me? I will be bringing my BA Diploma, my Worthless 120 Hour online cert, sealed transcripts, and passport photos.
Thanks! |

Paperwork varies so much from country to country that, without a specific destination in mind, that's a really tough question to answer. But, yes, all of those things that you mention should stay on your list. I assume, of course, that you'll have your passport with you as well.
You might consider reposting this inquiry to the various region- and country-specific forums that you're interested in. You'll get more nuanced advice that way. |

Get an apostilled copy of your degree certificate as well. |

Other documents I have been asked to produce include a criminal background check, a doctor's certificate of good health, and a birth certificate. The first two are subject to such specific requirements, though--wording about not having certain diseases, for example--that you might as well wait until you know your destination. Some countries may also ask for the CBC, your diploma, and possibly your TEFL cert to be apostilled.
At least one asks for a bank letter--the Czech Republic requires a letter from your bank as proof of funds for a Zivno, or trade license, which is preferred by most employers to a work permit.
Most countries require at least six months left on your passport.
As esl_prof suggests, the variation among countries makes it difficult to prepare until you begin to narrow down your choices. But diploma, transcripts, TEFL cert(s), birth certificate, and passport will take you far.

In addition to the originals, also take a few photocopies of each of those documents with you. Plus, always keep scanned copies on your computer on a shared drive for quick access or email from any device regardless of your location.

Some countries ask for certificates of experience. These are not the same as references they're just proof that you've worked where you have said you worked! |

Thanks so much for all the replies. I'm only working with 1 week before I depart. I think I can get everything together except the apostle. |

If you are going to try for work in continental Europe at this time of year, you'll need an apostle Simply not the hiring season. If you're heading to Asia, others can chime in. |

Probably best to bring one for your apostle too. |
