so, I recently got offered a job with AEON and will be leaving in July when I obtain my BA. I am not asking for opinions on AEON, I have read the threads here about them but i AM looking for tips on what to pack!
so I am a chubby dude now, 5ft 10in, about 230lbs (plan to drop to about 200 before I leave) so I know I should bring loads of changes of clothes and shoes since I have really wide feet and I can't even find shoes here in the states that fit me without going to specialty stores that sell wide shoes.
is there anything I should deff not pack besides obvious stuff?
anything I SHOULD bring that no one thinks about?
thanks!

It might be easier to think about this when you know where you'll be placed.

You can get most everything nowadays I believe, with the internet and Costco and whatnot. I would bring some good deodorant/anti-perspirant, shoes (if you are over a size 10), and vitamins (kind of expensive here). Foreign food products can be a bit pricey here and the selection limited.

Vits aren't that bad. Protein powder and creotine are unreasonable here.

Also, bring tons of underwear. If you are on the big side, Japanese underwear will only give you a wedgie.

sounds like an awesome advise. I am a bit bigger, looking to drop about 25 lbs before I go. I wear a size 38 levis loosely so I am pretty sure I should stock up on pants and underwear

also, i want to buy a nice camera before I go, i was gonna get a DSLR but realized I would hate to carry that thing around. I was thinking about a samsung galaxy camera but should I wait to buy one until I am in Japan so I can get one cheaper? IE my $250 US will take me further in Japan with the yen being weak

If you're okay with a manual written in Japanese and dealing with the whole warranty thing in Japanese, go with the cheaper route. While Japanese customer support are far superior than in the U.S., the language barrier is no small hurdle, particularly for tech.

I agree, where will you be located? As, the temp/weather is radically different in many areas in Japan.

Oh, I am smaller now(having kids means less gym time), but I used to not be able to wear ANY shirts here. I was at my peak 190lbs, but I had some pretty decent lifts, and my shoulders were pretty big. Even now, at about 175lbs, I can't buy a lot of dress shirts and what not here.

I have very wide feet. In the UK, I always had to go up a few sizes to get shoes wide enough, but in Japan, they have super-wide styles that fit me pretty well.

I weigh about 235 lb, and I can get clothes that fit me in large department stores. The selection is limited, but not too bad. I can also get a suit that fits adequately from a chain suit retailer, although they have to order it for me from their central warehouse.

Don't buy a DSLR.

Given your modest English Teacher's salary, you should only consider buying a DSLR if you are really serious about photography. If you were that serious, you wouldn't be mentioning Samsung Galaxy Camera and DSLR in the same breath.

I wish I was as fortunate. I have wide feet, so buying shoes is difficult, even in the US. I think men have an easier time with this. I doubt I'll ever be able to find women's shoes in Japan that would fit me. Men's shoes yeah, but doesn't help when I could use some nice dress shoes. -_-

I go to Jays wide shoes in the US. they have everything for both genders as wide as 6E (thats my size depending on brand) which is the widest they make. they have sandels, slippers, running shoes and dress shoes

Nex that advice on the deodorant. You'll spend most of your life in an air-conditioned school in air-conditioned classrooms. The roll on type of deordorant is a liquid type here. They don't have the dry block type. But, the roll on one works reasonably well.

I think the issue is that the local deodorants, like many other over-the-counter pharmaceutical products, are very weak.

Not that I'd know. I'm allergic to the stuff.
