I'm teaching EAP to low level students and will be focusing next week on reading long texts; tips/skills, some practise. There is not a lot I can do in one class, but I would like to give them the chance to apply some strategies to authentic material and leave the class feeling a more confident when faced with long academic texts.
I would really appreciate some advice, links or ideas.
Thanks! |

For general advice, try Googling "academic reading skills for ESL." If you have specific sub-skills in mind (e.g., vocabulary development, SQ3R, notetaking, skimming and scanning, pronoun references, etc.), then make your Google search specific to those skills.
If you've identified a specific sub-skill or two that you plan to work on, you might share that with us and, hopefully, some of us can give you more specific advice.
Good luck! |
