|
|
My recruiter sent me a contract from Kid Castle in Shanghai, and told me he thinks we would be a good fit. I could not seem to find much information on previous or current employers and I was just wondering if they are good to work for?
Any pros or cons?
Any information would be greatly appreciated,
A. |

It's not bad. This time last year I had just escaped their clutches. Pay is low, but the work is less than demanding. Good foot-in-the-door job, and they DO offer nice training for those with no experience. YOU WILL BE WORKING WEEKENDS AT 8 AM! No way around it, but at least the other days you can roll in at 4:30.
Make sure you get a job at a school near to one of the entertainment districts, or at least on the subway line to one. Shanghai is sprawling and nothing is worse than being stuck someplace where there are few English speakers and little entertainment that would suit a newbie/westerner.
The school has enough branches that you can have a built in social system with the people from your branch and others that you meet at meetings and what not.
For me detailed info, PM me. |

The KC branch I worked at (near DUFE in Dalian) required the performance of a Kid Castle song and dance at beginning and end of class.
Parents can observe class via viewing windows.
I was working at Maritime U at the time so 10 mins bus at most.
One Saturday my class was cancelled due to the illness of the teacher I assisted, but I wasn't told.
I turned up and socialised with parents and newly enrolling students for 45 mins as per usual.
But when it was class time manager told me of cancellation.
When I asked if I would be paid, I was told 'no' because (and the subtlety of this is beyond me) I had not actually entered the classroom.
I turned up the following week because it was payday and as soon as I had the cash I advised the manager to stick it. |

Don't forget, Kids Castle, like Joy English, is a franchise. They have a common system that is pretty straight forward, but keep in mind that the temperament of the boss who owns the franchise will play a central role in the quality of your experience.
Otherwise, it's pretty cookie-cutter, and good for a first experience. |
