Piggybacking on Spiral's thread, I thought it would be worth asking what food(s) you miss from a former country of residence that are difficult to find where you live now.

For me, it's good Chinese food. Yes, I know it's ubiquitous here in the U.S., and I've even found a couple of places that aren't too bad, but Chinese food, at least the Caribbean version of it, is infinitely better.

I don't miss anything at the moment, but that could change at the drop of a hat. I find that my culinary whims are generally met here in Beijing.

Well, I just returned from a three-week trip to Southeast Asia, so I am happy to be back and enjoy Chinese food. I got my fill of Southeast Asian food a few weeks ago; I found that Bangkok has a pretty good offering of Western food as well. That did the trick and hit the spot.

Warm regards,

I used to miss good cheese, but it's all available here now:-) At least in the big city.

Mexican food. Not very popular in Japan. Sometimes make it myself.

Same in China. Had my mom send some hot sauce for cooking (when she visited she brought a little one too). Lovely week of pinto beans tortillas and queso. Once the sauce was gone, beh. I have even tried growing my own peppers, hard in a concrete flat. Trying again once spring comes.

I miss enchiladas with only cheese, I really miss sourdoughs pizza from a place in my hometown, but I was gone from there years before I left.

What I really miss is the ocean, lived by it all my life until I came here.
