i'm finishing my contract and leaving the country. what kind of things do i need to know? do i need any documentation? and who do i give my various permits and certificates to?

so far i've heard that i need to show my tax certificate on the way out... since i can't get a hold of one, is it really a problem if you don't have it? my american embassy said i need it, but my friend's canadian embassy said it's not necessary (this is for leaving china, not for reentering our home countries, so the process should be the same regardless of nationality)...

i've also heard that i have to give my foreign experts certificate back to the school, but should make a copy just in case, and should give back my residence permit at the border, not to the school...

anybody know about this? or had any problems?

susan
