Hello all. I am new to this community and have a question.

I have been a public school teacher in the USA for seventeen years. I have a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education. I am not certified in ESL, however. With my college degree and classroom experience, would the TEFL Online course be enough to help my credentials be highly valued or should I complete a SIT or CELTA or TESOL seminar? (these programs are so expensive and located far away from my home)

WHEW! What a run on question! I want credentials that would be highly sought by any school in any country so I want to know the answer to my question before I spend the money.

Thanks.

This is strictly IMHO - but you'll find two camps of schools: those that don't care if you even have a TEFL, and those that want a 4-week certificate.

With your degree and experience, I can't see that most schools would care if you have a TEFL Certificate. However, teaching TEFL/TESL is quite a different animal from teaching general classes, so I'd personally recommend you take a 4-weeker TEFL Certificate.

Thanks Is650, I appreciate the advice. If I can, when I get to Thailand and start the job I may take the TEFL there so I can have it just to give me more training. I am sure there are many good ideas and techniques I can pick up from the class.

Thanks again. You have been a big help.

Cheers
