|
|
Hi,
I am wondering if Hong Kong immigration would ask any questions regarding a mental health diagnosis?
I was arrested under the mental health act in Toronto, Ontario after all I did was touch a girl on the shoulder. She called the police and they saw I didn't have much food in my apartment, which they considered 'physical or mental deterioration'. They took me to the mental hospital and when I tried to explain myself, I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. There's more to this story but it's too long to explain here.
I have previous teaching experience in Korea, but this was before my arrest and diagnosis, and know now that if I was to check 'yes' that I had received a mental health diagnosis on the Korean visa application, I would automatically be disqualified.
Therefore, I am wondering if Hong Kong asks the same question regarding mental health diagnosis, and whether it would also be grounds for disqualification.
Thanks
Edit: Is this the application form: http://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/ID990A.pdf ?
I don't see anything related to mental health on it, although to be fair, I don't see anything about clean criminal records either, although I'm sure that is a requirement. |

Bump. Come on, 377 views and not one reply? Does no one remember the visa process?
I'd really appreciate this information. Oxi? |

How about getting an updated psychiatric assessment to show your current (supposedly healthy) mental state? |

Is that really necessary, and would that even work? If possible, I'd like to avoid mentioning this altogether. |

My advice, don't lie on the visa application form. The govt does have a department dedicated to doing background checks and due diligence on incoming visitor work visas. Same general advice goes for your CV. However, if the question is not asked at all, then no need to volunteer that information at this stage. |

Well, that was my original question. Is it asked during the visa application process? I certainly wouldn't lie on it. One of the reasons I was considering Hong Kong was because I read the visa application process isn't as strict. I also read that the E2 visa in Korea is the only time they ask questions regarding a mental health diagnosis, but I wasn't sure. |
