I am in Riyadh at the Al Yamamah Women's University. They just opened the new building. It is absolute grandeur. There are henna designed walls, huge water fountains, and an open courtyard with soaring date palms. I am teaching in the SILC department. I love it so much! Riyadh is a very big city. The women's university is also very large. I have about 15 students per each class. I have complete freedom in developing the course outline. I enjoy including the student's in developing the outline for the course. They are very eager to give their input about what they want and need to learn. Negotiating is a key element in the culture here. It is quite enjoyable to see someone engage in negotiations on daily basis. The student's are very polite and sweet. I was also very happy with the accommodations that INTERLINK provided for my family. I came with my husband and 2 daughters. The apartment is very large and spacious. We have everything that we need in the apartment.
The
school also takes us shopping twice per a week. It is a little difficult to get adjusted the first month. I loved it even though the first month was quirky. I am very comfortable here. I feel as though I made the best choice to come to Riyadh. There can't possibly be more hospitable people in the world. |

I am thinking one (or all) of the following:
1) What's SILC when it's AT home?!
2) Fire! Fire! Pants on liar!!
3) Troll alert!!!
There are a fair few mistakes in the OP's post which send the odd alarm bell ringing...!!
Catching my drifting...?!?
On t'other hand, like, if it is true...apologies and all the power to ya!

Wellll... I have heard from one person who has been to the new campus and said that it was thus far a bit of a mess with things not completed - as is the norm in this part of the world.
Many of the teachers seem to suggest that they moved in before they should have what with all the problems. But, presumably they will eventually all be fixed and it will be nice.
Could be just a matter of opinion and not a troll...

Now, now, now.....I know that when it looks like a troll and smells like a troll it's usually a troll, but in this case it is an overly zealous convert.
And the building is nice if you're into the hotel lobby look for an institution of higher learning ! |

How long have you been working for INTERLINK? Glad to hear you are happy with your ''accommodations''. Only 15 students ''per each'' class? Wow, it sounds great. And the ''student's are very polite and sweet''. Lucky you! And Saudis are hospitable???? |

The OP should have hired a professional ad agency...from an English-speaking country. |

Yepp, somebody refrains from moaning about KSA and the 'ragheads', in fact goes so far as to - hear, hear! - express COMPLACENCE about the Arabs and their hospitality:
it MUST be a troll or an advertizer in disguise.
Human nature has it that nobody can possibly say positive things about the Saudis. Especially on this forum. We've only got some senators who occasionally slap someone's wrist when they go too far with criticism. |

Dear Nashledanou,
I don't know - I thought my post and that of NCTBA were pretty positive.

AND it takes a lot of gall (or poor linguistic proficiency, much worse than an illicit apostrophe repeated twice) to even think of the word "troll". Because usually a troll is "someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages" in a forum. So, if saying that something is good is seen as suspicious and even considered outrageous or not important... I am appalled. |

Dear John,
in fact, I was going to quote you both (but then I read on and got surly). I am very pleased when I read these things, not necessarily because I share the viewpoint, but because it is beautiful in itself to see someone who lightens up the atmosphere by expressing joy. |

Dear Nashledanou,
Well, since I mainly enJOYed my nineteen years in the Kingdom, I can understand how someone else could. However, I can understand as well why others might not.
But a few of those who might not seem to find it very difficult to understand how others could.
Regards,
John |
