Hello got a job offer from Guangzhou Worlda Cultural & Educational Consulting Services CO.LTD. My understanding of them is that they hire then send you to a school and that could be a bad thing. The city is Dongguan City according to the email. Now the salary is gross 11,000 RMB so that's before taxes. This job is 35 hours a week. Any experiences with this company? |

I got an offer from them too. Ask to talk to a current or former teacher as a reference. I did and they first said "Sorry , I have no other teachers' Email on this computer. However, I can ask them to give me next time I go to school."
Their next email said, "I would ask the current foreign teachers if they agree . Then give you the information."
I'm fully anticipating their next email to say that no one wants to talk to me.
I accepted an offer elsewhere. But this will be my first teaching job, so you're better off getting responses from others. |

11k for 35 hours a week is pretty bad. So is working for a company who is pimping you out to other schools. Just work directly for a school. It's not hard to find such a job and part of your payment won't be going to someone else. |

I would avoid a recruiter with such a pseudo-lofty name for more or less the same, but opposite reason (among others) that I would avoid working for "Bai Da Wei English School".
I mean who's really going to feel comfortable with an employer using a "joke name" listed on his or her CV? And what's a serious employer going to think when reading said CV?
In other words ... don't be fooled by the name. And as others have said, probably better not to use a recruiter at all, unless you really need to or have some specific reason for doing so. |

Dong Guan isn't really Guangzhou. It's more of its own place between GZ and Shenzhen. It is the former prostitute capital of SE China and a major site of industry. This means pollution, a lot of it. |

And the site of the World's largest "ghost" mall! Didn't know about the prostitution claim to fame. There seems to be many Chinese cities vying for that honor, or some derivative of it. All of this in a country that claims that there is no prostitution.
About Dong Guan per Wikipedia:
"The prostitution sector has mushroomed since the turn of the century and, by 2014, employed around one in ten of the migrant labour force of between 500,000 and 800,000 people, including around 300,000 prostitutes. Sex services are estimated to contribute 20 to 30 per cent of the total output of the city's service industry. Another estimate put the sector's contribution at 40 billion yuan — roughly 10 per cent of Dongguan's gross domestic product.[25][23]"
But yeah, op, think you should be tuned in to the fact that this "opportunity" has red flags all over it. A lot of times these crappy companies will change names to rinse their soiled reputation from clients and teachers actually concerned about an iota of quality and integrity. |

So Worlda is similar to another sketchy company in Shenzhen called Satifirst. Their business plan is basically to sell you as a foreigner to schools.
-The schools agree to a set amount of money they pay the company each month.
-You only see a percentage of this fund.
-sick days cost you money (even though the company receives the same amount from the school).
-pay increases are highly unlikely
-no money for summer holiday or the spring festival
-a legal Z visa through the company, but working illegally in schools (note that work visas are specific to the sponsoring company, so you are supposed to be working THERE, not the school)
-semi competent staff
-the feeling that you are a piece of meat to be sold off - "Look! Wei guo ren!" |
