When applying for a criminal background check from the UK, it either takes 2 weeks for standard disclosure (e.g. business), or for twice the turnaround time and more than twice the cost, one can get enhanced disclosure (children and vulnerable adults).
As it states on this site:

For speed and cheapness, do you think standard disclosure is sufficient for the Z Visa application for a university?
It seems a standard criminal check is being used by all applicants for z visa - teacher or not...

I have a Z visa in Beijing. I didn't need to submit a CNCC. The site you linked to is a lawyer. Lawyers are generally bad people to ask. He says "But other cities may be developing such requirements." In other words there is no requirement now.
Sounds like a greaseball lawyer to me. I wouldn't worry about it until you hear it from a more reliable source. |

the standard disclosure is definitely OK and you apply for it directly from https://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/
No need to use a lawyer or any agency.
I used mine in August and then again in November due to changing some details on my documents. |

| I used a regular background check from the US a few months ago (not an FBI check). Worked fine. If it has a stamp on it you should be OK. |

What is a "regular background check from the U.S."?
Are you talking about a local police check or something from an outfit that accesses national databases (a $47.00 fee)? I haven't been asked for one, and I've wondered if I should just have a local police check from home run off just in case. |
